Photo Library Access
Hevity requires read and write access to your device's photo library. This permission is used exclusively to perform the core functions of the application:
- ScanThe application lists your videos and reads technical properties such as file size, resolution, bitrate, codec, and duration to identify media eligible for compression. This analysis executes entirely on your local hardware.
- Compress and VerifyWhen you select a video for optimization, Hevity exports it to temporary local storage, re-encodes it using your device's native hardware encoder, and verifies the output quality against the original file frame by frame.
- Replace with ApprovalThe compressed file is saved and the original is removed only after the verification process passes and you explicitly approve the final result.
No file is scanned, compressed, or replaced without your direct instruction. If you grant limited photo access, Hevity interacts solely with the items you specifically select. You can manage or revoke these permissions at any time via iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.
iCloud Photos Integration
If an original video resides in iCloud rather than local storage, iOS will automatically download the file based on your system configurations. This transfer is executed entirely by Apple's native system services. It is not a network connection initiated by Hevity, and no data is routed through or sent to our application.
Files and Folder Access
Hevity supports video compression within user-selected directories, such as the Files app, On My iPhone, or iCloud Drive. Folder access operates under the same strict privacy principles as photo access. Hevity only reads the specific folders you explicitly select, processes the media locally, and writes the optimized results back to the source directory upon your approval. This access is granted through the standard iOS file picker and can be revoked at any time.
System Deletion and Recovery
When you authorize the replacement of an original video in your photo library, Hevity initiates the standard iOS deletion protocol. The operating system will present a native confirmation prompt. Upon approval, the original file is moved to the Recently Deleted album, where Apple retains it for approximately 30 days before permanent erasure.
In-App Purchases and Transactions
Hevity offers an optional premium tier, Hevity Unlimited, available via in-app purchase. All financial transactions are processed securely and exclusively by Apple through the App Store. Hevity does not collect, receive, or store your personal identity, payment details, billing address, or Apple ID. Your purchase entitlement is verified locally on your device using Apple's StoreKit framework. All purchase receipts remain strictly between you and Apple.
Local Application Data
Hevity maintains only a single piece of internal data: a running numeric tally of the storage space you have reclaimed. This metric allows the application to display your lifetime storage savings and enforce the limits of the free tier. This numeric counter:
- Resides exclusively on your local device within the application's private settings and the secure device keychain.
- Contains no personal or identifiable information.
- Is never transmitted to external servers.
Temporary working files generated during the active compression process are stored in a private, temporary directory on your device. The iOS operating system automatically deletes these temporary files when a compression job completes, fails, or is canceled.
Prohibited Actions
For absolute clarity, Hevity does not and will not:
- Collect, transmit, sell, share, rent, or trade any user data.
- Create or require user accounts.
- Utilize analytics, crash reporting, or remote telemetry services.
- Bundle third-party SDKs, advertising frameworks, or external tracking technologies.
- Deploy cookies or equivalent identification markers.
- Fingerprint your device or construct user profiles.
- Request access to your contacts, location data, microphone, camera, or health data.
Children's Privacy
Hevity does not collect data from any user, including children. Because the application utilizes a zero-data-collection architecture, no personal information is ever gathered from children under the age of 13 or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction.
User Rights and Data Control
Global privacy regulations, including the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California, grant users specific rights regarding their personal data. Because Hevity holds zero personal data, maintains no servers, and creates no user records, there is no information for our organization to access, correct, export, delete, or sell. The only existing application data is the local storage-savings counter, which remains entirely under your sovereign control. Deleting the application from your device permanently destroys this counter.
Policy Modifications
If a future update to Hevity requires modifications to this policy, such as the introduction of optional features that process data differently, this document will be revised prior to the release of that version. The effective date will be updated, and the App Store privacy nutrition labels will reflect any changes. The current version of this privacy policy always governs the current production version of the application.
